In today’s world, milk isn’t just milk any more. There are so many different milk varieties to choose from, whether you’re a fan of dairy products or not. Some are soy based, while others come from almonds, hazelnuts, coconuts, and even hemp. It seems a delicious glass of milk can be made out of just about anything, and the various types offer a range of properties and health benefits to taste and enjoy. One particularly health-conscious beverage called RELAX is derived from hemp seed, and so is infused with health-enhancing properties of the plant.

Cows need not apply

As you see in the no-frills advertisement for RELAX, what you see is what you get. The ingredients are plain and simple. Combined with the magical healing effects of cannabidiol (CBD), the non-psychoactive healing cannabinoid found in hemp plants and certain strains of cannabis, the results they deliver can be life changing.

Stress, anxiety, pain, and insomnia are just some of the conditions that CBD is known to treat. To take advantage of its health-enhancing properties, dispensaries around the world have been making their own CBD extracts and even growing plants with higher concentrations of the “miracle molecule”. It is having a serious impact on lives and modern medicine, a trend that will only intensify with further research and broadening public awareness. Companies are even finding ways to incorporate CBD into vaporizer pens, so that you can get the healing effects easily on the go.

Natural ingredients that help you relax

Everybody deserves to be able to find peace in life. All too often are our bodies and psyches ravaged by a rough week on the job, a condition compounded by lack of sufficient restful sleep. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “More than a third of American adults are not getting enough sleep on a regular basis.” Experts insist that, without at least seven hours of shuteye on a nightly basis, you are cutting into your potential health and long-term memory formation. This can indirectly affect your tasks at work, school, and overall focus.

What RELAX hopes to do, with the help of CBD oil, is to work with our body’s endocannabinoid system, which in turn helps regulate the other systems of the body. Using a series of receptors throughout the brain, nervous system, and immune system, cannabinoids are able to help our bodies achieve and maintain homeostasis, keeping us in balance.

Unlike most other known cannabinoids, however, CBD has little binding affinity to either the CB1 or CB2 cannabinoid receptors. Instead, CBD molecules dock with a number of other types of receptors. One type of CBD receptor when activated causes a chemical reaction within cells, resulting in specific DNA being stimulated that has been shown to provide health benefits.

Another receptor type is TRPV-1, which is known to mediate pain perception, inflammation, and body temperature. CBD in high concentrations also activates the 5-HT1A (hydroxytryptamine) serotonin receptor, causing an antidepressant effect. This receptor modulates a number of biological processes, including anxiety, addiction, appetite, insomnia, pain, and nausea/vomiting.

CBD also indirectly modulates cannabinoid activity by suppressing the fatty acid amide hydroxylase (FAAH). FAAH is the enzyme that breaks down anandamide, the first cannabinoid ever discovered that is made by the human body. (Mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish all make their own cannabis molecules for their CB1 and CB2 receptors.) By slowing the degradation of anadamide, CBD has the effect of increasing its natural relaxant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective effects.

Michael Insted is the development consultant for Rawligion, as well as a phytotherapist (plant-based healer). He said in an interview with, “The cannabis plant is almost the perfect plant—humans are supposed to have a relationship with this plant because we have cannabinoid receptors all over our body. Cannabis has all that we need to sustain life, vitamins, minerals, proteins, essential fatty acids. We can even make clothes and materials from the plant.”

Ironically, one of the greatest things about CBD striding into the forefront of cannabis-related medicine is that it doesn’t cause a psychotropic effect, or high. This makes it an exciting possibility for relieving the suffering of children, the elderly, epileptic patients, working people, and others who don’t want or need that effect. This aspect of CBD has opened people’s minds to look beyond the “narcotic” propaganda surrounding cannabis and consider the possibility that there is something to learn and utilize from this healing flower.

There are hundreds of compounds within cannabis and hemp that work with our endocannabinoid system for the betterment of our health. The more we know, the more we grow!
